He later received his master’s degree and Ph.D. in mathematics education from NC State. Griggs is a recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award and was recently named an Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor.

Outside the classroom, Griggs enjoys biking and boating with his wife and two children, as well as watching, coaching, and playing many sports. This past summer, he participated in the Tour de Cure bike rally in his home state of Indiana, where he raised funds for the American Diabetes Association.

“I was honored and thrilled to be asked to serve as a Park Faculty Scholar for this terrific group of young people,” says Griggs. “I have been a teacher and a coach for more than thirty years and this is by far the most rewarding experience of my educational career.”
