Park Scholarships is pleased to announce Mary Kornegay ’11 as the program’s assistant director of communications.
Mary is a 2011 graduate of NC State University with a B.A. in English and a minor in journalism. The alumna brings 10+ years of digital marketing experience and a passion for education to her new position. Previously, Mary worked as a digital marketing manager at an independent school in Raleigh. Her favorite part of her previous position was getting to know the students and being part of a vibrant, growing community. In this role, she hopes to combine her passions for education and student engagement with her communications expertise.
As the assistant director of communications, Mary will be responsible for the strategic development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communications plan that supports the Park Scholarships mission. She is most enthusiastic about the opportunity to write and share stories about the impressive happenings amongst Park Scholars.
A few weeks ago, Mary had the opportunity to attend the Freshman Retreat alongside the Class of 2026. Mary said “After attending the Freshman Retreat in Black Mountain, I knew I had landed an amazing opportunity. I’ve never met a group of students who were so excited and enthusiastic to be somewhere together. I witnessed the students cheering on and encouraging their new friends on the ropes course who had stepped out of their comfort zones. They asked important questions and had fascinating, complicated conversations. I was so impressed and excited to be a “new Park” alongside them.”
Mary is ready to “come home” to NC State. Her time as a student here can be defined with Brueggers bagel picnics in the Court of Carolina, proud walks past a red-lit Bell Tower and writing stories about her community for HerCampus. An avid runner, she has coached track and field teams, Girls on the Run groups and has run a few half-marathons herself. On the weekends, you can find Mary playing board games with friends, traveling to different small towns around North Carolina, reading or planning her upcoming wedding.
