Juliana Nfah-Abbenyi and John Griggs were appointed by the chancellor to serve as Park Faculty Scholars for the Class of 2013. In this role, the faculty oversee enrichment activities for the class and provide academic guidance for individual students.
Nfah-Abbenyi is a professor in the Department of English. She received her doctorates from McGill University in Canada and the University of Yaounde in Cameroon. Nfah-Abbenyi teaches courses on postcolonial and world literatures, literary theory, and gender and women’s studies.
“Professors usually do not have the privilege of seeing the same students and following their progress year after year,” says Nfah-Abbenyi. “I cherish having this possibility with the Class of 2013. Working with these Park Scholars is one of the most rewarding things I’ve done since I came to NC State.”
A literary critic and creative writer, she is the author of several books and her work has appeared in publications such as Callaloo: A Journal of African-American and African Arts and Letters, The Anchor Book of Modern African Stories and African Women Writing Resistance.
