Honoring the Life of Andrea Watson

Andrea Watson, Class of 2011

Dr. Andrea Watson, Class of 2011, passed away on Monday, Oct. 24. Andrea was born on May 16, 1989, to Gregory and Kathleen Watson in Statesville, NC. She attended Statesville High School, graduated as salutatorian and was awarded the Park Scholarship from NC State University. 

Andrea received her undergraduate degree in Animal Sciences from NC State University, graduating as a valedictorian in 2010. In her time at NC State, she was a part of the University Honors Program, served as a Chancellor of Alpha Zeta, Agricultural Honors

Fraternity, and held various internships and research positions across the world, including Australia, India, Brussels and France. 

Andrea was passionate about animals and animal medicine. She graduated from the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2014, and then started her career as a mixed animal veterinarian, where she spent a significant amount of time in dairy production medicine and other aspects of large animal practice. In 2016, Andrea took a position in Roanoke Rapids, NC, working with Roanoke Animal Hospital as a small animal vet.

Andrea served as a reader and a money counter at St. John’s Church in Roanoke Rapids. She was a volunteer for the Park Scholarship committee, where she enjoyed interviewing semi-finalists in the selection process. Andrea also enjoyed cooking, reading, spending time outside and watching the Wolfpack play. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Philip the Apostle Church on Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, 11 a.m. Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022, at Nicholson Funeral Home, 5:30-8 p.m. with a Rosary Service, 5-5:30 p.m., prior to the visitation. All are welcome to attend the Rosary.

Donations can be made online to NOMV (Not One More Vet), an organization that helps with the suicide issues surrounding veterinarians today.
