Jasmine Flood ‘12 was among a select group of upcoming designers awarded the Geoffrey Beene National Scholarship at the Young Menswear Association Fashion Scholarship Fund awards dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in New York earlier this year.
To compete for the $30,000 award, Flood spent months of preparation on a case study. “My case study involved designing fabrics and creating an innovative product and service that would stimulate growth for a specific retailer in the bedding industry currently experiencing financial trouble,” said Flood.
Flood intends to use the award to further explore her place in the fashion industry.

Flood was raised in Greenville, North Carolina and will graduate this spring with a degree in textile technology with a concentration in textile design. As an undergraduate, Flood conducted research on the textile supply chain market during a summer study abroad program in Vietnam, where she also took part in service-learning projects teaching elements of art, design, and textiles to Vietnamese children.
She gained valuable industry experience through a project development internship at the world headquarters of Cotton Incorporated, where she researched designs, sewed samples, created fabric designs, and assisted with the release of fabric lines for each season.
In the community, Flood has volunteered with the Ronald McDonald House, Carolina Oaks Nursing Home, and the Garner Road YMCA. She also spent three summers in her hometown working with children as an art instructor with the City of Greenville’s Famous Artists Camp.
After graduating from NC State as a Park Scholar, Flood intends “to become an asset to the textile industry in a creative discipline.”
She is one whose work we should keep an eye out for on the runways and in retail outlets in the near future.
