As co-president of the NC State chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Anahid Behrouzi ‘11 provides leadership for an organization dedicated to promoting engineering as a career aspiration among women by providing them with the necessary resources and support to be successful in the field.
“On a basic level, the structure of SWE is like any engineering design group. A team works together to tackle the needs of a certain audience and tries to come up with innovative ways to improve upon what currently exists,” says Behrouzi. “It has been a great experience to work with such a diverse group of women and have the opportunity to play a leadership role.”
In her role, Behrouzi interacts with company representatives to coordinate networking events and facility visits hosted by the organization. She guides the organization’s officers in the development of a schedule of events that includes a host of professional and social activities. She is also responsible for assisting the Community Outreach Team in pursuing philanthropic and engineering-related events in the community.
“The Society of Women Engineers has been a great support network for me since freshman year and we continue to build an even stronger organization that impacts females in our college – needless to say, it has been rewarding to be part of this growth,” says Behrouzi.
After she graduates with majors in civil engineering and Spanish language and literature, Behrouzi plans to attend a graduate program in structural engineering with a focus on green building techniques.
