Holly Moye has won a Schweitzer fellowship to help NC latino families.
Holly Moye (2006), a current medical student at ECU’s Brody School of Medicine, has been named an NC Albert Schweitzer Fellow for 2007-2008.
Schweitzer fellows are chosen on a competitive basis from student applicants in a variety of health-related fields. Each fellow works with a local community agency to carry out a project that contributes at least 200 hours of direct service. Holly is one of twenty-one graduate students from NCs health and human service schools to be selected for the award.
Working with classmate Wylie Carhartt, Holly will develop and implement a family nutrition program in Snow Hill. Project F.U.N (Families Understanding Nutrition) will work in conjunction with the Greene County Family Literacy Program. F.U.N. aims to empower Latino families in Greene County by teaching them about basic nutrition and promoting more healthful behaviors for the benefit of their long-term wellness.
Holly’s service and involvement can be traced back to her time at NC State, where she volunteered at the Urban Ministries Open Door Clinic and with WakeMed. In 2002, she co-founded NC State’s Dance marathon which raises thousands of dollars for the NC Children’s Hospital each year. She also sang with campus a capella group, the Packabelles and studied abroad in Segovia, Spain. Her involvement with the Greek community also earned her recognition in the Order of Omega and the Panhellenic Council’s Outstanding Women’s Award.
After graduation, the Maury native plans to practice family medicine in Eastern North Carolina.
