The Park Alumni Society sees—and seeks—success with its first major fundraising campaign.
This academic year marks the 10th anniversary of the Park Scholarships at NC State. It also marks a decade of commitment from the Park Foundation. To date, over $45,000,000 has been committed to the scholarship, funding more than 450 individual scholars.
In November, the PAS—working in conjunction with the Alumni Association and the Park Scholarships office— launched two fundraising initiatives to pay tribute to the commitment of the Park Foundation and commemorate this milestone in the program’s history.
Through a special mailing, alumni were introduced to two campaigns: the Campaign for Excellence for the Park Alumni Center and a new study abroad stipend fund for Park Scholars.
In a few short months, the PAS has come a long way toward reaching it’s initial fundraising goals. As of February 6, more than $12,000 has been donated by alumni. As the fundraiser comes closer to meeting it’s monetary goals, the PAS looks to meet the 50% participation goal set by the alumni board.
Campaign for Excellence for the Park Alumni Center
Slated to open on Centennial Campus in spring 2006, the Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center will house some facilities for the Park Scholarships program. A fundraising goal of $10,000 was set—$1,000 per each Park Scholar class—to place 10 class recognition plaques in the Alumni Donor Plaza. While almost $11,500 has been donated to the Campaign for Excellence so far, the PAS hopes to raise alumni participation.
Park Scholarships Study Abroad Stipend
The board decided to also kick off a longer-term fundraising project to support a study abroad stipend for current Park Scholars. The goal is to initially raise enough funds to begin distributing these grants in the Spring of 2007. Donations to the study abroad fund have reached almost $1,000. The PAS hopes to raise at least $6,000 before June 2006.
