Homecoming Weekend Recap

Homecoming Weekend Recap

NC State’s Homecoming weekend was a chance for Park alumni to catch up and Park Scholars to shine.

For the second year in a row, the Park Alumni Society held an open meeting and pre-game tailgate during NC State’s Homecoming weekend. Alumni came from out-of-state and across the state to enjoy Homecoming activities and NC State’s win over Wake Forest.

On Friday, Oct. 1, alumni were on hand to witness the Homecoming Parade’s return to Hillsborough Street. The Park class of 2005 entered a float, in an attempt for a forth-consecutive win. Though they didn’t win, their exorcism of Wake’s Demon Deacon was well-received by the crowd.

Later that night, an open meeting was hosted by acting treasurer, Wortham Boyle (2003). Alumni enjoyed shrimp and grits and discussed future goals for the PAS (see minutes).

On Saturday, Oct. 2, Park alumni and their friends and family came out for a BBQ tailgate co-sponsored by the NC State Alumni Association. A Wolfpack win topped off the day, as the Pack took down Wake, 27 to 21.

Leaders of the Pack

During half-time, two Park Scholars were named this year’s Leaders of the Pack. The $1000 scholarship honors one female and male each year on the basis of scholarship and their leadership and service in the campus community. This year’s winners were Erin Welch (2007) and Robby Moorefield (2006).

Erin, a sophomore in Public Relations, is a Caldwell Fellow and works for Technician as a Deputy News Editor. She’s involved in many service and leadership roles on campus, serving as a WolfAide, working as the Student Government Co-Coordinator for Public Relations and being active in the University Scholars program. She’s volunteered as an Alumni Association Student Ambassador and with IGNITE, a middle school leadership program. She also served as this year’s Homecoming Publicity Chair.

Robby, an Atlanta native, is a junior majoring in Chemical Engineering and Textile Chemistry. He is active in the greek system, serving on the Executive Board of the Interfraternity Council and Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI). He’s had several service roles, working with both Service Raleigh and the NCSU Dance Marathon and founding a grief support group at Enloe High School. A research assistant in the College of Textiles, he’s a member of Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi and the Order of Thirty and Three.
